The Junior Open was a great success for Heswall Golf Club. Members were thanked by the R&A for hosting the event. All the competitors were praised for the way in which they represented their countries.

Opening Ceremony
The Junior Open commenced on Sunday 16th July with the Opening Ceremony, a colourful event in which the Wirral Schools' Brass band played. The R&A flag was raised and each of the competitiors were presented with a medal. Speeches were made by Peter Unsworth of the R&A and John Smith, Heswall's Captain.
The Competitors
The Competitors were all aged between 12 years and 16 years inclusive. Each golf playing nation was invited to send one boy and/or girl to play in the event. This year there were 100 competitors accompanied by more than 70 delegates, representing more than 61 countries. There were 3 categories, gold, silver and bronze.
Gold hcp 3 and under
Silver hcp 4 -9
Bronze hcp 10 - 21
The Format
The competition was stroke play.
Closing Ceremony
The Closing Ceremony and Prize-giving took place after play finished on Wednesday. There were numerous Trophies to present, many of them regional. No player, however, was permitted to win more than one trophy.
