Kenya Ladies Open

Finally this week I’ve been able to start to fulfil my dream of playing on the Ladies European Tour full time. I got my card in October and I’ve been battling the elements since then trying to ensure I’m ready for the season. As you’d expect the weather this week has not quite been the same as the UK with temperatures in the mid 30’s everyday.

I arrived on Sunday morning with the aim of getting used to the weather and getting some early practice, however my clubs didn’t arrive till late Monday night. It certainly made me nervous as the airline couldn’t locate them. I’d worked so hard and now there was a possibility I could start the season without my tools of the trade, my clubs. A little scary!

Thankfully they did arrive and I was set to go.

I was selected for the pre tournament pro am and struggled with my game, the conditions were really tough with hard fast fairways, strong winds and hitting long irons into the greens. So I knew from the start I needed to be patient, something I’d say I was good at.

I played much steadier when the tournament started and comfortably made the cut. I was then determined to move up the board as best as I could and Saturday I did shooting under par. The conditions were taking their toll though, and I was becoming a regular with the tournament doctor, as the heat and firm ground were giving me really bad blisters which I needed bandaging up.

Onto the final round and a couple of slip ups here and there, and I finished the week with a 75 which left me in a tie for 21st. So many positives to take forward to Saudi in around a months time, and also a bit of time to work on the elements that I wasn’t happy with.

For anyone that watched the coverage on Sky Sports, you will have seen all the wildlife on show, just amazing to see Zebra and Giraffe walking the fairways with us.

I must finish by thanking everyone at Heswall for supporting me throughout the week by text, email and social media.  It makes such a difference to hear so many kind words.
