VE Day 8th May 2021
Dear Members
MEN’S, LADIES AND MIXED VE DAY COMPETITION
Saturday 8th May 2021
Last year marked the 75th anniversary of VE Day (8th May 1945) and we had planned a huge golfing and social occasion for all members on that day. Regrettably, events overtook us with Covid-19 firmly taking hold and the day, along with many others, was cancelled.
One year on, we are planning to mark the 76th anniversary of VE Day on Saturday 8th May with a Men’s, Ladies’ and Mixed golf competition. The format will be teams of 4 – all Men, all Ladies or a Mixed team (2 Men and 2 Ladies) – with the best 2 scores to count on each hole, and all four scores counting on the Par 3s. The competition is open to all Full Members. Juniors with a Handicap Index of 20.0 or less may also participate.
There will be voucher prizes for the best Stableford team scores recorded by a Men’s team, a Ladies team and a Mixed team. The team with the best Stableford score overall will also receive winners’ medals from the Royal British Legion. There will also be prizes for the best front nine and best back nine team Stableford scores. All competitors will receive a complimentary Royal British Legion pitch-mark repairer.
The competition entry fee is £10 per person (£40 per team), with 50% of the proceeds being donated to the Royal British Legion charity. Entry fees will be deducted from members’ bar cards on Friday 7th May.
Full competition details, including eligibility criteria, are attached.
Competition tee times will be available from 7am to 3pm and can be reserved on BRS in the usual way from 10am this Sunday, 18th April. Entry to the competition will close at 11am on Friday 7th May, after which entry fees will be non-refundable.
Bar and catering services will be available all day from 8am to 8pm. There will be daily specials, including dishes from the 1940’s. Please note that seating will only be available outdoors and, as this is limited, members may be asked during busy times to vacate their table after around an hour and 20 minutes to enable other members to eat at the conclusion of their round.
Although the event this year will be very much more restricted, we still hope you will join in the fun and put together a team. There will be extra prizes for the most appropriately dressed team – so why not play in something red, white and blue or in your 1940s costume.
The Pro Shop will also run a raffle on the day with some fabulous prizes on offer.
Further details about the day, including meal options, will be circulated nearer the time.
