Heswall Juniors – End of Season Update
Junior Sixes Tournament
The new Junior Sixes tournament has been a great success this year for many juniors across the Wirral. Overall, Heswall had a squad of 12 juniors taking part between June & October and playing some great golf courses :
Heswall, Royal Liverpool, Caldy, Wallasey & Leasowe.
The final match was played at Wallasey GC last Sunday, and Heswall came 2nd closely behind Wallasey (with home advantage).
Overall the team can be very proud of their golf development and achievements as they finished 4th in the Sixes league. The winners this year were the Wirral Golf Academy.
Eight of the squad enjoyed food & refreshments at Wallasey after the matches finished. I think it’s fair to say that they thoroughly enjoyed themselves.
This has hopefully been a great stepping stone towards other golf events and golf experiences for the juniors and I look forward to continuing seeing the Heswall juniors develop and continue to enjoy their golf journeys.
The Wirral Junior League
The Heswall team played their final match of the season at Caldy GC last Sunday.
Although the result did not go our way, the youngsters enjoyed the experience, played some very good golf and 4 of the 6 were still practising and enjoying their golf well into the early evening. A dedicated and keen bunch indeed.
Heswall finished 3rd in the league, which was won by Royal Liverpool.
Some of the current team become Colts next year, with a few also then not eligible to continue to play for the Junior team, but the Colts will certainly benefit and more of the juniors are excited at the prospect of establishing themselves in the Junior team.
Helping the Juniors
As Junior organiser this year, I have learned a lot, met some great kids & their parents plus have enjoyed working with the Junior committee who are a dedicated and keen bunch who share my vision for expanding the Junior membership next year and enjoy seeing the juniors having fun on the golf course.
Special thanks to the Junior Committee for helping & supporting myself & the juniors this year. We all give up our time on a voluntary basis and I know from the parents that our efforts are really appreciated. We all enjoy the rewards of seeing the juniors having fun & making new friends.
My thanks must also go to Jason for his encouragement & support as I picked up the JO role from him in the summer. Thankfully Jason’s patience did not waiver despite my hundreds of questions which I bombarded him with!
More Juniors needed
The Junior section is always looking for new talent & youngsters who wish to experience the fun and pleasure of golf. I therefore invite parents & grandparents to help encourage their family members & friends to get involved and give golf a try. The parents & grandparents of the sixes squad this year would certainly endorse how much fun their kids have had this year from golf itself, making new friends and from a sense of achievement.
